The Hungarian Association for Community Development

was founded in 1989 by a group of progressive-minded adult education professionals who were convinced that people have the right and responsibility to participate in shaping the world around them, but this also requires professional help and encouragement.

Providing information about

– Hungary (the social context and the context of communities)
– current conditions of communities, methodologies used, actual trends within the civil sector and professional partnerships
– active professional organizations and community development consultants in the field

Taking part in professional consultancy and professional discussions regarding

– civil society and community issues (development approaches, methodologies, current challenges, Hungarian trends etc.);
– specific professional topics, especially with regards to assisting community initiatives, community-based development processes, participation-based methodology, mobilization of communities living in poverty and community-based service design.

Contributing to bilateral learning and training programs

– The HACD is a certified Hungarian adult education institute, organizing its own training programs and publishing its own training materials
– We are open to adapt and share international methods in Hungary

Contributing to the national implementation of (common) projects focusing on local development and social innovation

– We have been working in the field for 30 years in order to assist local development processes
– Through our nation-wide professional network, needs for professional pilot projects are continuously assessed and reacted to
– We work within professional and regional partnerships
– We participate in designing and implementing international professional projects

Publishing, translating and adapting literature

– We consider this form of sharing knowledge important as well, so we publish our own periodical called Parola, in which we usually share translations of foreign materials
– Sharing Hungarian examples, experiences and methodologies, we contribute to the publication of international studies
